John was raised from birth by a single mom. As a young boy, he became internally displaced during the Kenyan 2007-2008 post-election violence in Kenya. He was separated from his mom and sadly, her whereabouts were never discovered. John moved in with his grandparents. While he had a home, he was still unsafe because his uncles abused him. The pain from his past and ongoing trauma from his abuse forced him to run away. After spending five hard years on the streets of Kitale, Milele outreach workers connected with him. John was invited to participate in vocational training with support and mentorship from Milele.

Today, he is learning to be a hairdresser, a career path he truly enjoys and one that will empower him to become financially independent. In his spare time he loves to play football. His joy is increasing as he continues to heal and embrace the love of God.
